Sermon on the Mount Week 9

         A candle (lychnon)-Lamp
A bushel (modion)-A Dry Measure About a Pint Less Than a Peck
         Candlestick-Lamp-Stand
Neither do men…put it under-Defeats the Purpose of a Lamp
         Giveth light-Shines
Let your light so shine-Not Concealing What You Possess
Before men-In Front Of (Jn 12:37)
That they may see your good works-Personal Living Testimony
And glorify-The Purpose of Godly Living
Your Father which is in heaven-Spiritual Birth Relationship
         Applications
Nobody Lights a Lamp Only to Cover It Up
Lamps Are Placed Strategically to Give Needed Light
Christians Are the Lamps of the World
Christians Are to Hold Forth A Life That Is Patterned After Christ
This Life Glorifies Our Father and Leads Others to Christ
There is A General to Particular Influence to the Element of Light
The Light of the World is the Sun Seen By All
The City By the Surrounding Neighborhoods
The Lamp by the Immediate Family
The Influence Must Be Felt From Particular to General
The Kingdom & The Law                Matthew 5:17-20
·        The Redeemer & The Law
·        Think not-Divine Knowledge of Opinions
·        That I am come-That I Came; Historic Fact
·        Came From Private Life to Public Ministry & Above (Jn 1:31)
·        To destroy the law, or the prophets-The Authority and Principles of the Old Testament
·        Why Did the Pharisees Think Jesus Was Destroying the Law?
·        His Authority Was Not From Recognized Leaders or Schools
·        His Activity Seemed to Defy the Law
·        His Associations Seemed Contrary to the Law
·        Who Was Really Destroying the Law?
·        The Pharisees By Their Emphasis on Traditions
·        Hypocritical Lives Disobeyed the Law They Claimed to Protect
·        I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill-Repeated for Emphasis
·        Destroy-To Unloose What Was Bound
·        Fulfill-To Make Complete
