  • The Life of David-The Youthful Years

    Historical Setting   1 Samuel 16:1-5
God Used Samuel to Preserve Israel After the Lost Battle of Aphek in 1075 BC
Samuel Was the Last Judge in Israel (1 Sam 7:15)
But the Israelites Wanted a King
This Was Viewed As A Rejection By Samuel Until He Spoke to the Lord (1 Sam 8:6-7)
Though Saul Was Allowed to Be Exalted to King, He Proved to be Unsuitable (1 Sam 13:13-14)
For 20 Years God Waited Patiently for Saul to Repent
Saul Sealed His Doom When He Did Not Kill Agag & Kept the Animals (1 Sam 15:22-23)
David Was Anointed by Samuel To Be the Second King in Israel
The Rejection of Saul Did Not Force The Lord to a New Course of Action
             Chapter 16
How long wilt thou mourn for Saul-Sorrow Though Proper, May Be So Extreme As to Make One Unfit for Service

The Lord’s Will Has Three Dimensions:
             The Man
             The Place
             The Time
Samuel Had the Right to Travel Anywhere As Israel’s Judge & Prophet
He will kill me-Saul Was Suspicious & Jealous
Take an heifer…to sacrifice-Additional Task From The LORD
And Samuel did that which the LORD spake-Immediate Obedience Even Though His Life Was in Danger
Trembled at his coming-Apprehensive of Judgment or Trouble
Sanctify yourselves-Ceremonial Washing Which Accompanied a Sacrifice (Ex 19:10)
Called them to the sacrifice-Feast Afterward
1080 BC  Apek; Ark Lost; Eli Died; Samuel Started Ministry
1060 BC  Mizpeh; King Requested; Samuel Rejected
1050 BC  Michmash Warning; David Born
1030 BC  Saul Rejected; David Anointed

But if I do-If I Am Performing the Works of My Father
Though you believe not me-Or You Don’t Credit the Works to My Authority
