    Jonathan’s Loyalty to David                1 Samuel 20:1-17
    ·        Conflict of Loyalties, Especially in the Family, is One of the Most Painful Difficulties We Face in the Life of Faith
    ·        Christ Calls for Supreme Devotion to Him and His Will for Our Lives (Matt 10:34-39)
    ·        David fled from Naioth…and came…before Jonathan-To Seek Council of His Friend
    ·        What have I done?-Is it My Fault
    ·        Iniquity?-Transgression
    ·        Sin before thy father?-Have I Wronged the King
    ·        If So, David Would Repent & Repair, So That He Could be Restored
    ·        Jonathan said God forbid-Far Be It
    ·        Jonathan Mistakenly Thought That His Own Relationship To His Father Was Closer Than It Really Was
    ·        He will show it me-Literally, Uncover My Ear
    ·        Let not Jonathan know this-Insulated From Grief and Escape
    ·        But a step between me and death-Literally & Figuratively
    ·        Jonathan to David: I will even do it for thee-Whatever You Need I Will Do
    ·        New moon…to sit with the king at meat-Feast of the New Moon (Num 28:11-15 & Ps 81:3)·        Why After All the Threats Would David Be Expected To Be At the Table?
    ·        Maybe Some Sort of Reconciliation by Samuel at Ramah
    ·        Maybe A Temporary Sanity Because of the Encounter With the Holy Spirit
    ·        Hide myself in the field-By the Stone Ezel Meaning Departure (20:19)
    ·        David’s Absence Would Help Reveal Saul’s Genuine Attitude Toward David
    ·        If Saul Be very wroth, Then David Was Correct
    ·        If Saul Says it is well, Then Jonathan Was Correct
    ·        The Only Problem Was That It Required Jonathan to Lie
    ·        What Was The Lie?
    ·        David had Gone to Bethlehem to Attend His Own Family’s Feast
    ·        There Was An Annual Festival for Jesse’s Tribe Called the Mishpachah
    ·        The Lie Was That David Was Summoned to It
    ·        Covenant of Jehovah with thee-Friendship Witnessed by Jehovah
    ·        If there be in me…iniquity-Any Evil Acts or Thought of Evil
    ·        Slay me thyself-I Release You From the Covenant & Ask You to Do Your Duty
    ·        Far be it from thee-Never or God Forbid
    ·        If I knew…would not I tell it thee-At the Least Suspicion I Will Tell You
    ·        Who shall tell me?-How Am I Going to Know?
    ·        Went out both of them into the field-For Privacy
    ·        LORD-6 Times in 6 Verses; The Basis for An Oath
    ·        Jonathan Swore Two Oaths Before the LORD
    ·        First, Promised to Give David the Correct Message on the 3rd Day
    ·        Second, If Necessary, send thee away Safely
    ·        Shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever-Your Kindness is to Be Like the LORDS Kindness; Unfailing
    ·        The Covenant Was Between Both Houses or Families
    ·        Not Only While Yet I live, But
    ·        Cut off thy kindness from my house-Don’t Eliminate Potential Rivals to the Throne
    ·        Cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth-Prophetic of a Time When David Would Be King
