Life of David-Fugitive Years Wk 11

Massacre of the Priests at Nob            1 Sam 22:6-23
·        David was discovered-Was Known, But Not The Specific Place
·        Saul abode in Gibeah under a tree-Took His Seat in a Grove on a Hill; Probably a Tamarisk Tree
·        Having his spear in his hand-Javelin as a Scepter
·        Servants were standing about him-A Court of Officers Taking Their Posts in Order Around Him
·        Ye Benjamites-Nepotism
·        Will the son of Jesse give every one of you-Redistribution of Wealth & Favoritism
·        You have conspired against me-Saul Turns Upon Them & Accuses Them of Working Together
·        Sheweth me that my son-They Concealed the Relationship of Jonathan & David
·        To lie in wait-David is Secretly Plotting My Murder
·        Doeg…set over the servants of Saul-Stood Over With the Servants
·        I saw the son of Jesse-Evil Intent of Turning the King’s Suspicions From the Officers to the Priests
·        Doeg saw the Perfect Opportunity for Political Advantage & Further Advancement
·        Doeg Tells Only One Side of the Story; Half-Truths Are Lies
·        All his father’s house-Doeg Implied That All the Priests Were David’s Allies
·        Saul said, Hear now…conspired-An Arraignment Before the Court for Treason
·        Thou son of Ahitub-Means Good Brother; Ahimelech Means Brother of the King
·        Rehearses the 3 Points of Doeg as Conclusive Proofs of Guilt
·        Ahimelech’s Answers Are Those of an Innocent Man Who Had Supposed That His Actions Were Normal
·        His Listing of David’s Privileges of Rank Probably Only Embittered Saul
·        Is so faithful-Ahimelech Thought David to Be the Most Faithful of Saul’s Officers
·        Goeth at thy bidding-Admission to the Royal Presence Unbidden
·        Did I then begin to enquire of God for him?-Consult God by the Urim & Thummim
·        Thy servant knew nothing of all this-Acted in Good Faith Based on Who David Was
·        Footmen-Runners
·        Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD-A Command (Deut 24:16)
·        Would not put forth their hand-Disobeyed a Direct Order From the King
·        The king said to Doeg,Turn thou-Not Satisfied, Saul Orders Doeg
·        Slew in that day(85)-Barbarian Massacre Unparalleled in Jewish History by One of Their Own
·        And Nob the city of the priests, smote he-Not Satisfied, His Rage Destroyed Whole Families & Livestock
·        Disturbing, But Part of God’s Plan
·        God Promised Eli’s Priestly Family Would Be Replaced by Zadok (1 Sam 2:27-36 & 1 Ki 2:26-27)
·        Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David-Probably Left in Charge of the Sanctuary at Nob
·        And Abiathar shewed David-Messenger of Bad News (Matt 7:21)
·        I have occassioned the death-He Took Responsibility for the Murders
·        To Claim We Are Justified in Our Behavior in a Certain Action is Called Situational Ethics
·        He that seeketh my life seeketh thy life-Oneness of Safety & Friendship
·        David’s Army Now Had Gad the Prophet, Abiathar the Priest & David the King
