    Why Did David’s Child Go to Heaven          2 Samuel 12:15:23 
    §        David fasted-Minimal Food
    §        And went in-To A Room in His House; Not the Temple
    §        On the seventh day, that the child died-Excluded From the Covenant (Lev 12:3)
    §        No Name For the Child
    §        Why Would A Loving God Not Answer David’s Prayer?
    §        Evil Is In the World, Not Because of God
    §        There Are Consequences for Sin
    §        Washed and anointed…changed his apparel-New Beginning
    §        Came into the house of the LORD and worshipped
    §        In A Manner Appropriate to a Priest (Ex 30:20)
    §        David Did Not Break His Fast Until After He Worshipped
    §        What thing is this that thou hast done?-Servants Mystified

    Nathan Reveals David’s Sin                2 Samuel 12:1-14 
    o    David Remained Unrepentant For Between 9 Months & A Year
    o    David’s Life Was Not Enjoyable (Ps 32:3-4)
    o    The Confessing
    o    The Trial
    o    The LORD sent Nathan-He Did Not Go On His Own
    o    And said unto him-Fearless & Prepared
    o    The Elements of the Story:
    o    Rich Man-David
    o    Wealth Expressed in Livestock or Harems
    o    Poor-Uriah
    o    Poverty Expressed as One Ewe Lamb or Wife
    o    As King, David Was Obligated to Justice for Poor Families
    o    One little ewe lamb-Bathsheba
    o    David Would Listen Because He Was Once a Shepherd Himself
    o    Did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom-Just Like Uriah’s Words in 11:11
    o    Was unto him as a daughter-A Beloved Pet Becomes Like Family

    o    Punishments According to the Covenant (Lev 26 & Deut. 27-20)
    o    God Would Slay Their Sons (Lev 26:17)
    o    Take Away Their Children (Lev 26:22)
    o    Give Their Wives to Others (Deut 28:30)
    o    Take Israel Out of its Land Into Foreign Exile (Deut 28:63-68)
    o    But the Covenant Also Included Repentance & Pardon (Deut 30)
    o    The Pardon
    o    I have sinned against the LORD-Finally, Sincere Repentance
    o    Jehovah also hath put away thy sin-Grace (1 Jn 1:9 & Ps 130:3-4)
    o    Thou shalt not die-Death Was the Legal Penalty for Adultery (Lev 20:10)
    o    Given great occasion to the enemies of Jehovah to blaspheme-To Despise Jehovah’s Government
    o    The child also that is born unto thee shall surely die-Consequences

    l     David Escalates the Plan to Murder
    l     Sent it by the hand of Uriah-Complete Trust
    l     To Joab-Who Puts Two & Two Together!
    l     Why went ye nigh the wall?-Unnecessary in a Siege
    l     If…the king’s wrath arise-Joab Even Knew How David Would React
    l     The sword devoureth one as well as another-Such is the Fortune of War
    l     She mourned for her husband-Exact Time Unknown; 7 Days To A Month
    l     Displeased the LORD-Cover Up Incomplete; Unfinished Business

    The Sin of His Life                   2 Samuel 11:1-17 
    l     Remember, David Was A Man After God’s Own Heart
    l     Let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall ( 1 Cor 10:12)
    l     David Was Now About 50 Years Old
    l     On The Throne of Israel About 20 Years
    l     Distinguished Man of God, Composer of Psalms, Valiant Warrior, Leader
    l     Everything Was Going Well
    l     David Didn’t Fall Suddenly
    l     He Increased the Number of Wives & Concubines in Direct Disobedience (Deut 17:14-17)l     This Turned His Heart From The Lord & Made Him Vulnerable
    l     Addictions Are Not Satisfied by Increasing the Dose
    l     The Conceiving
    l     At the time when kings go forth to battle-Spring
    l     Besieged Rabbah-Capitol Walled City of Ammon
    l     David tarried still at Jerusalem-David Was in Bed, Not in Battle
    l     Temptations Come Not When Working Hard, But When At Leisure
    l     Eveningtide-Late Afternoon After A Nap in the Heat of the Day
    l     Walked upon the roof-Patio Next to His Bedroom
    l     He saw-Unfortunate, But Not Sinful
    l     When David Paused & Took that Longer Second Look-Sin Conceived (Matt 26:41, James 1:14, Job 31:1)

    l     Both Were At Fault, But David Was the Aggressor

    l     In Times of Temptation, There is One Command-Flee (1 Cor 6:18, 10:14, 1 Tim 6:11, 2 Tim 2:22, James 4:7)
    l     Wife of Uriah the Hittite-A Subtle Warning of Wisdom

    l     And David sent messengers-Pursuing is Deeper Into Sin (Matt 5:28, Lev 20:10)
    l     And took her-No Evidence of Force
    l     She came in unto him-Cooperated
    l     He lay with her-The Act of Adultery
    l     And the woman conceived…and told David-It’s Your Move (Num 32:23)
    l     The Devil’s Tactics Never Change (Gen 3:6)

    l     When We Are in the Midst of Panic, We Don’t Make Wise Decisions

    Davidic Covenant            2 Samuel 7:1-17
    *    When the king sat in his house-A Time of Peace Following Wars
    *    Nathan the prophet-Used of God During the Monarchy Years
    *    I dwell in a house of cedar-A Mansion Compared to Those Who Still Dwelt in Tents
    *    God dwelleth within curtains-Tabernacle or Temporary Lodging
    *    Do all that is in thine heart; for the LORD is with thee-Encouragement From the Human Perspective
    *    Shalt thou-The Question Implies a Negative Answer, But Not Disapproval
    *    Have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle-Verb Means Walked Continually
    *    Why build ye not me an house of cedar?-No Command to Any Tribe for A Permanent Worship Place
    *    Commanded to feed my people-Means to Govern
    *    My servant David-A Title of High Calling
    *    I took thee from the sheepcote-To Be In The Line of Messiah
    *    Have made thee a great name-Not For Only An Earthly Reign
    *    Because David’s Reign is a Type of Messiah’s Reign
    *    Therefore, The King Must Hold A Special Place In The Hearts of Israelites
    *    Moreover I will appoint…will plant-Action That Has Already Occurred
    *    Since the time that I commanded judges-The Nation Had Been Using Their Energies For Survival
    *    Rest from all thine enemies-Security to Develop Culturally & Spiritually
    *    He shall build an house for my name-I Chose David to Lead and Solomon to Build
    *    I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever-More Than Just Solomon’s Descendants on the Throne
    *    For ever-Can Only Apply to Divine Action
    *    The Temple Was A Symbol of Christ’s Incarnation (Jn 1:14)
    *    Today, The Temple is the Body of Every Believer ( 1 Cor 6:19)
    *    I will be his Father, and he shall be my son-Between Father & Son is Love & Oneness (Jn 10:30)
    *    The rod of men-David’s Natural Seed Not Exempt From Sin or the Related Punishment
    *    My mercy shall not depart away from him-No Blotting Out of David’s Lineage
    *    Saul, whom I put away before thee-Does Not Refer to Time, But Means Witnessed
    *    Be established for ever-Because From Him Was to Come Christ
    *    Vision-Not Natural Sight, But Mental Intensity
    *    Covenant Summaries:
    *    Foundational Covenant is the Abrahamic Covenant (Gen 12:1-3)
    *    God Chose Abraham by His Grace
    *    Promised Him a Land, a Great Name, Multiplied Descendants
    *    Promised Him His Blessing and Protection
    *    Promised the World Would Be Blessed Through Abraham’s Seed, Jesus Christ (Gal. 3:1–16).
    *    God Called Israel to Be The Human Channel Through Which His Son and His Word Would Come to the World.
    *    The Davidic Covenant Builds on This:
    *    First, The Covenant Promised Rest
    *    Rest Was A Basis for Israel’s Observance of the Sabbath (Ex. 20:8–11).
    *    Rest Also Looks Forward to Christ Sitting Upon David’s Throne (Is 11:1-12)
    *    Applies to the Spiritual Rest of the Believer in Christ (Matt 11:28-30, Heb 2:10-18)
    *    Second, The Covenant Promised David a Ruling Dynasty Forever
    *    God Announced to David That Messiah Would Come Through His Family
    *    Third, David’s Son Would Build the Temple
