Galatians Wk 10

Abraham Justified                               Gal 3:6-9
         Importance of Abraham:
Abraham Became the Father of the Jewish People When God Established An Unconditional Covenant with Him (Gen 12:1-3)
The First Mention of Faith and Imputed Righteousness is to Abraham (Gen 15:6)
         Faith Alone for Abraham
The Spiritual Experience of Abraham Provided a Pattern for All of His Posterity
Even as or Just As, Connects the Faith of Abraham to the Experience of the Galatians
         Abraham believed God
The Object of His Faith Was God (Gen 15:6)
He Did Not Believe Something About God, But He Believed God (Heb 11:6)
The Content of His Faith Was Belief in the Ability of God to Do What He Promised (Gen 15:5)
         Faith Transcends Reason
Abraham believed or Was Confident in God (2 Cor 5:7)
The Time of His Faith Was Before He Was Circumcised
He Believed in Gen 15:6 & Was Circumcised in Gen 17:10
Circumcision Was An Evidence of Justification, Not a Requirement for it
Although He Became the Father of the Jews, He Was Justified When He Was A Gentile
God Called Abraham 430 Years Before Even the Law was Given
The Result of His Faith Was Receiving the Righteousness of God
Accounted to him-The Old Account Was Settled
         Faith Alone for His Children
         Know ye-Understand Then
That they which are of faith-Who Seek Justification by Faith Are Really the Spiritual Children of Abraham
Jews Are the Physical Children, But That Alone Does Not Make Them the Spiritual Children (Rom 9:6 & 2:29)
The Determining Factor is Spiritual Identification, Not Physical Connection
         The Blessing of the Covenant
         The scripture-The Inspired Authority; Singular
Foreseeing-Seeing Before is a Function of Divinity
God would justify the heathen through faith-The Present Justification of Uncircumcised Galatians Was Foreseen
Preached before the gospel unto Abraham-Good News of Salvation Extended to All Peoples on the Basis of Faith (Jn 8:56)
They which be of faith-Specific Class of People
The Bible Does Not Teach Universalism
Blessed with faithful Abraham-Receive a Righteous Standing & Justification
The Subject of Law is a Major Theme in Galatians
Law is Used in Several Ways:
Law Can Refer to the Entire Old Testament (John 10:34)
Law Can Refer to the First 5 Books of Moses (Matt 5:17)
Law Can Refer to the Moral, Civil, and Ceremonial Regulations (Heb 9:19)
Law Can Refer to Only the Ten Commandments (Matt 22:36-40)
Paul (& Therefore God) Was Against All Forms of Law When it Was Used As A Means to Gain Salvation (Jn 1:17)
