The Life of Faith Gal 3:10-14 • The Law Can Curse • We Know That All Men Are Under Sin (Rom 3:9) • Additionally, All Men Are under the curse • This Curse is for Those That Seek to be Justified by Human Effort Through Legal Obedience • Partial or Temporary Obedience is Not Adequate • Ignorance Cannot be Accepted as a Valid Excuse • Continual Obedience is Required • To Fall Under the Curse: Break One Commandment Once • A Person Can Sin in Thought and Intent As Well As Deed (Matt 5:27-28) • The Law Tells Us What We Are Being Saved From—the curse • The Law Cannot Justify • it is evident-An Apostolic Observation • for-An Authoritative OT Proof • Four Truths Shown: • First, that no man- No Exceptions • Second, is justified-Is Being Justified; Happening At The Time of Writing • Third, by the law-The Means of Justification (Rom 3:19-20) • Fourth, The just shall live by faith-Legal Observance Doesn’t Count for Salvation (Hab 2:4) • This Verse is Quoted 3 Times in the NT with Different Emphasis: • In Rom 1:17, The Emphasis is on “just” • In Gal 3:11, The Emphasis is on “live” • In Heb 10:38, The Emphasis is on “faith” • The Law is Contrary to Faith • Law Says That Man Must Do Before He Can Live • Faith Says That Man Must Live Before He Can Do • Israel’s Strength Became Their Weakness (Rom 10:3) • The man that doeth them shall live in them-Legal Obedience Becomes a Fence • Only When a Legalist Quits Trying, Can They Start Trusting • Deliverance from the Law • The Nature of Redemption • Christ is The Redeemer • Jesus (Gr. Jesous; Heb Joshua) Means Jehovah is Salvation or Jehovah Saves • Christ (Gr. Christos) Means the Anointed One • Four Aspects of Christ’s Redemptive Work: • First, hath redeemed-It is a Finished Work (Heb 10:12 ) • Three Verbs Used of Redemption in Scripture: • Agorazo-Pay the Price or Ransom for Redemption (1 Cor 6:19-20; 2 Peter 2:1; Rev 5:9-10) • Exagarazo-Buy Out Of or Remove From the Market (Gal 3:13) • Apolutroo-To Release or Set Free (Titus 2:14; 1 Peter 1:18-19) • Second, us-It is a Personal Redemption • Third, from the curse of the law-It Was a Purposeful Redemption • Fourth, being made-It Was a Substitutionary Redemption (1 Peter 2:24) • How Could the Holy Son of God Become a Curse?-Judicially (Deut 21:23) • The Purpose of Redemption • That (hina)-In Order That • Two Purposes for Christ’s Redemptive Work: • blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; • One, Believers Get A Right Position • that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith • Two, Believers Get A Right Power • The Promise of The Spirit is Unique to This Church Age (John 14:16-17 & 15:26 )
