Introduction                                       Exodus 20:1-2          
Today’s moral “laws” are:
•         Nothing More than Situational Ethics
•         Respect for God Always Demands Respect for His Law  
•         The Lord Your God
•         Decalogue- Meaning: Ten Words
•         The Preface to the Ten Commandments
•         And God (Elohim)-Trinity
•         Spake all these words- Direct Voice
•         Israel Was Fearful That They Would Die (Ex 20:18-19)
•         The People Could Not Doubt His Presence Among Them
•         Angels Were Present (Acts 7:53 & Gal 3:19)
•         This Law was the Result of an Agreed Covenant (Ex 19:5-8)  
•         God and His Law
•         The Law Comes from God and Reflects His Divine Character
•         This Character Includes the Attribute of Love (Matt 22:37-39)
•         Summarized: Love God and Love Your Neighbor (John 14:21)
•         Cannot Separate God’s Law from God’s Love 
•         The Law is Eternal
•         When We Break God’s Law, We are Making a Direct Assault on God
•         The Law is Perpetually Binding
•         Expressed in the Symbolism of Writing in Stone
•         The Commandments are the Giving of the Law
•         They Were In Effect Before God Wrote Them Down 
•         The Law Distinguished
•         The Moral Law is the 10 Commandments
•         The Civil Law Governed Israel as A Nation
•         The Ceremonial Law was for Worship
•         Preamble Identifies Who are the Parties to the Covenant
•         I am the LORD thy God
•         Thy-Israel is the One Receiving
•         Israel is Represented by Singular Pronouns-Nation
•         thy God-Personal Relationship
•         the LORD is Identified as the Giver of the Covenant
•         I am the LORD- He is the Great I AM, the Sovereign and Almighty LORD
•         This is a Two-Party Covenant
•         Prologue Identifies How the Parties Came to Be Related
•         have brought thee out of the land of Egypt-A Rescue
•         Sometimes Called a Hesed Relationship
•         Meaning: Loyalty Required in Response to Loyalty Shown
•         brought thee out- A Saving Relationship
•         The Ten Commandments Don’t Begin with the Law, But With the Gospel
